Discover the traditions of silk production and manifacturing. Be inspired by this pretigious material and learn all about the museum and the Lake Como area.

Silk production on Lake Como provided work to a large number of families in the early twentiwth century. In fact, women, men, and entire generations who lived in the villages around the lake, contributed to making silk a handcrafted product of the highest quality. Silk, a fabric symbol of elegance and refinement, has always been considered an extremely noble and prestigious material. In Abbadia Lariana, at the Civico Museo Setificio Monti, it is possible to still admire the intact tools that where used for the production of thread, twisting , spinning, etc.

The twisting mill, with its 11 x 5 meters in diameter, is the largest in Europe. Perfectly intact and funcioning, it is a machine of immense splendor, with historical value and from an engineering point of view, absolutely priceless.

EXPERIENCE
Arriving in Abbadia Lariana after aproximately 30 minutes of travel. Walk to the Silk Museum in the center where you will meet the guide. Participants will be taken on a visit of the museum to discover the secrets of the silk production, twisting and spinning process.

RETURN
Return to Varenna by train according to the train's schedule with arrival in the square of the Varenna-Esino train station.
